To be mentioned in the same sentence as the Cuban singer Celia Cruz, the Queen of salsa, is saying a lot about your talent. Cruz herself called her la princesa de la salsa, the princess of salsa. Surely an honor for the Puerto Rican-born and New York-raised singer La India. She started her career as one of the founders of hip-hop band TKA. In the ‘90s, La India was touched by the then raging salsa fever. She recorded a duet, Vivir lo Nuestro, with singer Marc Anthony, who is immensely popular in Latin America. After this huge hit, many peaks in her career have followed. Besides her collaboration with Anthony, she has also worked with Eddie Palmieri and Tito Puente. She is mostly known for the seductive salsa songs she performs using her powerful voice and passionate podium presence. She is also much admired in the dance world, as her hit Can’t Live without Music, produced by DJ Roger Sanchez, will testify. Her talent and enthusiasm are bound to move your feet at Curacao North Sea Jazz 2010.
